Google Retires the Info Search Operator

Google Webmaster Central Blog posted that Google disabled the info command. The company refused the tool because it is rarely used, and users can get this information using the URL Inspection tool within Search Console.

With the info operator, you could see the canonical URL for a particular page, but Google decided that Search Console functions are enough and the command is no longer required.

The company noted that the URL Inspection tool showed the canonical URL that the search engine had chosen. If the webmasters do not agree with Google's decision, it is necessary to find duplicate content on the site and delete it.

SEO–expert commentary:

«With the info command users could see what pages Google considered to be canonical, and find all website mirrors (with www, https or http-versions), having no access to the Website Search Console. Thus, we cannot retrieve this information directly from the SERP, but we may use the «site» operator, that makes searches of all indexed documents in the SERP».
